Nonprofit Testimonials

The Poverty Simulation has motivated and inspired many of our participants to take action in our state. Some have met with their elected officials, some have written letters about what they learned and how they felt after participating, and some have met to brainstorm potential legislation to help poor families in our state. This has been one of the best tools we have found to begin the conversation and take action.

– MaryLou Beaver, Every Child Matters

I’ve been facilitating the CAPS for the Ohio Association of Foodbanks since 2009. Since 2009, my team and I have facilitated well over 200 simulations and reached over 12,000 people including caseworkers, nurses and doctors, community leaders, business people, teachers, professors and students. The feedback from these individuals has been tremendous. This is one tool that our communities cannot do without!
– Dustin Speakman, Ohio Association of Foodbanks

The Poverty Simulation has provided our organization with a non-threatening way to engage people in conversation about the issues families with low income face every day. At a recent simulation conducted for the Allegheny County Bar Association in Pittsburgh area, participants indicate that it has forever changed the way they view people living in poverty and has moved them to become more involved in helping support families in our community.

– Cynthia Moore, Greater Pittsburgh Community Bank

The Poverty Simulation can get a room full of people very anxious, frustrated and stressed in a very short time. It helps participants understand the challenges of living in poverty in a way no book or workshop can.
