Community Action • Poverty Simulation Testimonials

Our agency uses CAPS as an advocacy and awareness tool. By allowing participants to experience – even for a short while and on the surface level – the experiences of families living in poverty, they increase their level of empathy. The simulation is a truly eye-opening look at the choices economically disadvantaged families have to make just to survive.

– Chelsie Howard, Palmetto Community Action Partnership

We love the Poverty Simulation because it offers a truly meaningful, insightful experiential learning opportunity for participants. From legislators and government officials to case workers and college students, everyone has something to gain from the Poverty Simulation. It’s one of our most powerful tools for reframing issues of poverty and dispelling myths about low-income families.

– Afton Jones, Community Action Partnership of Utah

The kit is well thought out and well put together, making it a pleasure to facilitate. It’s great to see the ah-ha moments throughout the simulation, but the richest parts of the event come out in the debrief.

– Julie Kagele, Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council
